Character Cut-Outs
Summary of Activity: Students will create a character cut-out of their favorite character in Rocket Writes a Story. The students will cut-out the arms, legs, head, and body of the character of their choice. The students will then think of five different adjectives to describe that particular character. They will then write the five adjectives on each section of the character's body. Finally, the students will assemble the character by stapling the arms, legs, and head onto the body of the character.
Rationale: This activity will be beneficial for students to complete because it allows them to identify their favorite character of the book and think of different adjectives to describe that particular character. This activity allows students to go beyond the text, and think of adjectives to describe the characters based on the illustrations and dialogue throughout the book.
Common Core Standards:
Level of Bloom's Taxonomy: This activity addresses the comprehension level of Bloom's Taxonomy. Comprehension is the ability to grasp the meaning of material. This level allows students to demonstrate understanding of facts and ideas by organizing, comparing, translating, interpreting, giving descriptions and stating main ideas. This activity allows students to comprehend the text by choosing a favorite character and by thinking of five different adjectives to describe that particular character. Students interpret the meaning of the text to come up with five adjectives to describe one of the main characters.

"My Favorite Nouns" Book
Summary of Activity: Students will pretend to be a noun detective and search for their favorite nouns around their house. They will find at least five of their favorite nouns and will take or draw a picture of each. After they have taken a photo, they will cut the photo out the photo and paste it onto different notebook pages. At the top of the page, they will label the photo and write down whether it is a person, place, or thing. At the bottom of the page, the students will write a short sentence explaining why that particular noun is their favorite. After they have created at least five pages for each noun, they will create a cover for their book, and bind all of the pages together.
Rationale: This activity will be beneficial for students to complete because it allows students to apply what they learned in the book in the real-world. Rocket searched for words around him that were inspiring. Students will be doing the same thing in their own surroundings. This activity gives students the opportunity to find and describe their favorite nouns. It will also allow them to think about whether the noun is a person, place, or thing.
Common Core Standards:
Level of Bloom's Taxonomy: This activity addresses the synthesis level of Bloom's Taxonomy. Synthesis is the ability to put parts together to form a new whole. Learning outcomes in this area stress creative behaviors, with major emphasis on the formulation of new patterns or structures. This activity allows students to apply one of the concepts of the book into their own world. Just like Rocket, students will go on an adventure to find their favorite nouns to create their own book.
