Poetry
Poetry brings sound and sense together in words and lines. Poems tell stories, create images and moods, make readers laugh or cry, develop a sense of wonder, and show the world in a new way. I have provided a couple of poems that you can read about the story. At the bottom of the page, you'll find instructions
to create a poem of your own!

Found Poem
A found poem is created by collecting words and phrases from stories, newspaper articles, and nonfiction books, and arranging them to make a poem. Below I have provided an example of a found poem that I created using the words and phrases in Rocket Writes a Story. After you have read my poem, feel free to write your own found poem!
Inspiration
He wrote words down,
And crossed words out.
He looked down at the blank page,
And the blank page looked up at him.
He stuck his nose high in the air,
And sniffed the gentle breeze
It smelled like a place he'd never been to,
Like a friend he'd never met.
He thought about feathers,
And a nest in a pine tree.
An owl with friendly eyes,
And a beak the color of a buttercup.
Big round eyes blinked,
Below feathery tufts.
In a nest high in a tree,
On the edge of a meadow.
He wrote words down,
And crossed words out.
He looked down at the blank page,
And the blank page looked up at him.
He stuck his nose high in the air,
And sniffed the gentle breeze
It smelled like a place he'd never been to,
Like a friend he'd never met.

And a beak the color of a buttercup.
Big round eyes blinked,
Below feathery tufts.
In a nest high in a tree,
On the edge of a meadow.
"If I Were. . ." Poem
"If I Were..." poems are where poets write about how they'd feel and what they'd do if they were something or someone else. Below I have provided an example of an "If I Were..." poem that I have created. After you have read my poem, feel free to write

If I Were Rocket
If I were Rocket,
I'd lie down under a tree.
Settle in for a long nap,
And dream of running free.
If I were Rocket,
I'd listen to the birds sing Chirp-Chirp!
Enjoy the sweet melody,
And all that life will bring.
If I were Rocket,
I'd chew my favorite bone.
Go on fun adventures,
And be all on my own.
If I were Rocket,
I'd lie down under a tree.
Settle in for a long nap,
And dream of running free.
If I were Rocket,
I'd listen to the birds sing Chirp-Chirp!
Enjoy the sweet melody,
And all that life will bring.
If I were Rocket,
I'd chew my favorite bone.
Go on fun adventures,
And be all on my own.
